The Salcheto Wine Estate is located in the historic Vino Nobile District in the southeastern Siena province of Tuscany. Salco is a willow tree in Tuscan language whose branches were used to bind vines. The word Salcheto comes from the stream that runs through the town of Montepulciano and is the boundary of their organic winery. The willow trees are still planted at the winery and form a part of their logo to show their commitment towards environmental sustainability. Salcheto is a proud member of Alliance Vinum and has also won the 2014 Sustainable Winery of the Year Award by Gambero Rosso. Their mission is to do quality work in both the vineyards and the cellar to make the best possible wines.
It has been thirty years since the winery was set up and it has changed from a classic farm to a modern winery with the best machines and latest technology. Michele Manelli has run the winery since 1997 and wants the wines to reflect the quality of the terroir and their celebrated Sangiovese grape.
